The Ohio Township Association Leadership Academy (OTALA) was created by the OTA, the Center for Public Management and Regional Affairs (CPMRA) at Miami University and OSU Extension: Office of Community Development. The Academy is designed for township elected officials, administrative staff and individuals who serve on township committees, boards or task forces. The purpose of the Academy is to enhance the leadership and decision making skills of the township leadership team through required workshops, which are offered at every OTA conference. A diploma is presented to each individual who successfully completes the program.
The following criteria must be met within a three-year period of submitting a registration form and attending your first workshop.
- Submit a registration form.
- Complete the General Workshop.
- Complete the Federal Session, to be held at the OTA office in the summer of 2012 (replaces NATaT conference component).
- Attend six of 10 elective workshops, which include the following:
- Conducting Effective Meetings
- Communicating and Working with the Media
- Communicating and Working with Citizens
- Building Sustainable Communities
- Team Building
- Conflict Management and Dispute Resolution
- Leadership Skills and Styles
- Effective Decision Making
- Intergovernmental Relations: Opportunities and Challenges for Cooperation
- Technology in Government
