Township Action Needed to Support Increase of Township Force Account Limits

Newsroom,

TOWNSHIP ACTION NEEDED

This has been a longtime legislative priority for the OTA and Ohio's townships. Limits on force account work were last increased in 2003, and townships maintain +41,000 miles of road but receive the least amount of funding. Road maintenance costs continue to increase, & 2020 gas tax projections fell short due to the pandemic.

Sub. H.B. 74 will increase the bidding threshold for all types of road projects (maintenance/repair and construction/reconstruction) to $150,000. This proposed increase in force account limits would allow twps to better utilize their own resources for smaller projects, and would reflect the increased cost of doing business today.
