Boardman Township is seeking an experienced, professional, and forward-thinking leader to serve as its next Fire Chief.
Serving more than 40,000 residents, Boardman Township is one of Ohio's largest and most vibrant townships. Its progressive, professional Fire Department is committed to excellence in emergency response, fire prevention, and community service.
Under the direction of the Board of Trustees and the administrative oversight of the Township Administrator, the Fire Chief serves as the executive leader of the Boardman Township Fire Department and is responsible for its overall administration, management, and operation.
Key Responsibilities
The Fire Chief will provide leadership and oversight in the following areas:
- Department administration and daily operations
- Personnel administration and professional development
- Budget preparation and financial management
- Emergency response operations
- Department training and readiness
- Fire prevention and inspection services
- Strategic and long-range planning
- Public relations and community engagement
The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership, sound judgment, professionalism, and a commitment to providing outstanding fire and emergency medical services while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will possess:
- An Associate's Degree in Applied Science – Fire Science. A Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Executive Fire Officer (EFO) or Ohio Fire Executive (OFE) credentials may be accepted as an alternative to higher education.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a firefighter, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory position at the rank of Fire Captain or equivalent preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ohio Firefighter II Certification.
- Ohio Paramedic Certification.
- Fire Officer III and/or Fire Officer IV Certification.
- Fire Inspection Certification.
- Fire Instructor Certification.
- NIMS 300/400 Certification.
- Incident Safety Officer Certification.
- A valid Ohio driver's license.
- The ability to successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation.
