Perry Township is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and forward-thinking leader to serve as its next Public Works Director.

Reporting directly to the Township Administrator, the Public Works Director leads all operations of the Public Works Department and serves as the principal advisor to the Township Administrator and Board of Trustees on infrastructure, capital improvements, budgeting, and long-range planning.

This is an exciting opportunity to:

  • Lead the maintenance and improvement of approximately 145 miles of Township roads, drainage infrastructure, parks, facilities, fleet, and other public assets.
  • Help shape the future of one of Stark County's largest townships through strategic planning and capital improvements.
  • Pursue grant funding and develop partnerships that expand infrastructure investments and enhance Township parks and facilities.

Key Responsibilities

The Public Works Director will:

  • Lead and manage all Public Works operations, including roads, drainage, parks, facilities, fleet, and capital projects.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop department personnel while promoting a safe and productive workplace.
  • Prepare and manage the department's operating and capital budgets.
  • Oversee roadway maintenance, paving, stormwater infrastructure, fleet replacement, and facility maintenance.
  • Manage public construction projects, contracts, procurements, and grant-funded initiatives.
  • Develop long-range infrastructure and capital improvement plans.
  • Represent the Township before residents, contractors, and governmental agencies.
  • Coordinate Public Works operations during snow events, severe weather, and other emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates should possess:

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in public works, roadway maintenance, paving, construction, or infrastructure management with a township, municipality, or county.
  • At least two (2) years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Experience managing road maintenance, drainage systems, public construction projects, contracts, and departmental budgets.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and project management skills.
  • A valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) within six (6) months of employment.

Experience managing parks, recreational facilities, or public grounds is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary is approximately $90,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Perry Township offers a competitive benefits package, including participation in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS), health insurance, paid leave, and other employee benefits.
